The 2014 Infiniti Q50 is the latest generation of the Infiniti G37 sedan, which changed its name to fit into the luxury brand’s new nomenclature. Along with that name change comes fresh sheetmetal and a revised chassis to better prepare the 2014 Infiniti Q50 for the new wave of executive compact sports sedan competitors.

The Infiniti Q50 carries on the fun-to-drive, luxurious legacy of its predecessor, but doesn’t quite measure up to the bar set by competitors BMW 3 Series and Audi A4 . When we drove a 2014 Infiniti Q50S, we yearned for an adjustable suspension and didn’t care for its steer-by-wire system. We did appreciate the smoother operation of the V-6 compared to the G37, and found power to be more than adequate, with 0-60 mph happening in 5.2 seconds.

Inside, the Q50 is roomier than its predecessor, with more rear kneeroom and easier ingress and egress thanks to a repositioned B-pillar. New ergonomically designed front seats available in leather upholstery highlight the cabin, which also gets standard “Kacchu” aluminum interior inspired by a Samurai sword. The available Infiniti InTouch system offers Bluetooth connectivity and a split-screen display for custom apps. Other options include a 14-speaker “Studio on Wheels” Bose audio system, heated seats, dual-zone climate control, rearview camera with Around View Monitor and Moving Object Detection, and a hard drive-based navigation system.
